Day One Application

APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Day One Leadership Program (Day One) - a program unmatched in its ability to develop every student's leadership potential. Success in Day One requires a clear understanding of, and solid commitment to, the program's requirements. Before continuing with the application process, please review the following conditions and check the box at the bottom if you agree to accept these terms.

Learn

I agree to attend all classes on my schedule on a regular basis. I recognize that my class attendance is key to my learning in Day One and my overall success at Mississippi State University.

Lead

I agree to be enrolled in the two credit-hour Day One Leadership class SLCE 1002 along with all other Day One students. I recognize that class is essential to the program's ability to deliver leadership content and instruction that will further develop and enhance my leadership potential and skills. Attending the Leadership class will produce several advantages by providing the tools that I will need to effectively lead at the individual, group, and community level.

Serve

I agree to provide weekly service outside of class (a minimum of 20 hours by semester's end) to my assigned community partner (e.g., Habitat for Humanity, Caring Days, Boys and Girls Club) with 3-6 other Day One students on my Action Team. I recognize that these service-learning hours are important to the program's ability to foster relationships throughout the community. Weekly service hours provide my Action Team with the advantage of hands-on learning and with important background information about my community partner that is necessary to complete my team's Day One project. I also understand that I may be assigned to a particular community partner that will require me to submit my name and Social Security number to the Mississippi Department of Human Services for a background check.

Produce

I agree to work with my Action Team and my assigned Scholar to develop, plan, and implement our Day One project for the benefit of our community partner.
